One of the most anticipated stops of the 2012 IBA World Tour, the Zicatella Pro has been officially cancelled due to lack of funding. IBA World Tour manager Terry McKenna explains.
“ We thought that we had set up this event to be self funding after the success of last year but sadly that wasn’t the case”. Both the National and local governments were given ample time and statistical proof that the event would be a great investment into the region and a fantastic way to tap into the lucrative surf tourism market. After many meetings and lots of optimistic correspondence they came back empty handed. To make matters worse the region suffered a massive blow by hurricane Charlotte across the weekend. This may have been the most popular event of the year so there will be a lot of disappointed riders from around the world”
One person who is definitely seeing an up side to this bad news is Dave Winchester! Winny is coming off of back-2-back wins and has this years world title almost on lock with 3 events left in GSS. GT and Mitch Rawlings might have something to say about that in these remaining events.
